Description

MOATS – Monolith Open Area Testing System

The Monolith Open Area Testing System (MOATS) is an advanced, high-precision imaging solution designed specifically for the inspection and analysis of coated and uncoated monoliths in industrial applications. Leveraging cutting-edge machine vision technology, MOATS captures detailed top-lit and back-lit images of monolith structures, providing accurate measurements of critical parameters such as open channel count percentage and channels per square inch (CPSI).

Key features include:

  • Touchscreen Interface
  • Accurate Measurement & Analysis
  • Automated Calibration & Validation
  • Safety Mechanisms
  • Data Logging and Historical Analysis

MOATS is equipped with LED lighting and a machine vision camera mounted on a 2D motion stage. This system ensures consistent, high-resolution images of monoliths, even when inspecting different coating types or structures. The dual lighting system (top-lit and back-lit) ensures that every detail of the monolith is captured, facilitating precise analysis of its internal and external structure.

The system is capable of accurately calculating open channel percentages and CPSI, essential metrics for evaluating the performance and quality of monoliths in applications such as emissions control, chemical catalysis, and filtration. This makes MOATS a crucial tool for manufacturers and researchers who need to ensure the quality and efficiency of their products.

MOATS features a Windows-based software system paired with a touchscreen interface for intuitive control. The touchscreen makes it easy for operators to manage tests, view results, and adjust system settings, ensuring a smooth workflow and reducing operator error. Additionally, MOATS offers various access levels (e.g., Admin, User) to ensure that only authorized personnel can modify system settings, further improving operational security.

To maintain accuracy and reliability over time, MOATS comes with automated calibration and validation routines. These include pixel-per-mm measurement and motion calibration for precise control of the 2D motion stage. MOATS ships with dedicated calibration targets, including the Calibration Target (UF_00000_14), Validation Target (UF_00000_20), and Motion Calibration Target (UF_00000_21). These ensure that the system remains in peak operational condition, delivering consistent and accurate results over extended periods of use.

Safety is a top priority in the design of MOATS. The system includes an emergency stop button that instantly halts all motor operations, protecting both the system and the operator. Additionally, it has limit switches on the motor stage to prevent the camera assembly from exceeding safe motion boundaries. The system also incorporates power indicators and safety fuses to guard against electrical issues, ensuring that MOATS can be operated safely in industrial environments.

MOATS allows for comprehensive data logging, enabling users to track and review historical inspection results. This feature is especially useful for monitoring monolith degradation or for process control in manufacturing. The system’s software stores all analysis data, which can be reviewed later through the touchscreen interface, with options for graph-based and image-based analysis.

MOATS is the ideal solution for manufacturers, researchers, and quality control specialists who require precise, repeatable, and reliable inspection of monolith structures. Its advanced imaging technology, robust safety features, and user-friendly interface make it a critical tool in ensuring the highest standards of product quality and performance.
